APOCALYPSE YUM: QUARANTINIS

A lot has changed since the Zombie Research Society first mentioned the coronavirus back in January; travel bans, school closings, and “social distancing” have become the norm. Many major cities have begun ordering the closure of restaurants, taverns, and bars. But if you find yourself in quarantine, don’t worry! Our resident survival expert and Advisory Board member Dr. Cameron Carlson has an apocalyptic twist on the classic martini to help settle your nerves.

Being stuck indoors might take a toll on your health, and it’s important to get your vitamins. But you don’t need to sacrifice the small things during such a stressful situation, especially if you enjoy an occasional cocktail. That’s why Dr. Carlson has mixed up a nifty little drink that he calls The Quarantini. So grab your martini glass and check out his brand new video below!

Quarantinis

Please note that this drink recipe uses vodka, which is an alcoholic beverage not intended for minors. And despite the tremendous amount of vitamins included in Emergen-C, studies have not shown that it actually provides any health benefits. This video is strictly for entertainment purposes. So please drink responsibly, and stick around after the video for a brief word from our resident expert and epidemiologist Cameron Carlson regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

What you’ll need:

  • Ice: Let’s hope that your refrigerator and freezer are still working during the zombie apocalypse, otherwise you may have to save this particular recipe for the winter months! Cameron uses about five ice cubes for his drink, but you can use more or less depending on your preference. And if you need to chip some snow from your survival shelter, or pull a few icicles off the roof – go ahead! The point is simply to chill the drink, not water it down.
  • Vodka: Okay, so technically this is a vodka martini since real martinis are made with gin. And honestly, we really don’t even know what brand he’s using since we’re not drinkers ourselves. But let’s just assume that any brand is an option. After all, this is the apocalypse and you can’t be picky when you’re fighting off zombies and scavenging store shelves!
  • Emergen-C: Cameron is using Super Orange for his demonstration. But this particular product comes in a wide variety of flavors; they’ve got Cranberry-Pomegranate, Coconut-Pineapple, Lemon-Lime, and Tangerine… just to name a few! Apparently you can buy this stuff chock-full of vitamins, probiotics, electrolytes, and everything under the sun. But we make no claims regarding their health benefits, so just use it for taste and hope for the best!
  • Shaker: Remember all of those swanky cocktail parties that you meant to host before the zombie apocalypse? Well now you finally have a chance to use that fancy shaker! Of course if you don’t have a shaker, a regular cup or glass will do – but it won’t be nearly as much fun.
  • Glass: You want a martini glass, obviously. Might as well endure your quarantine in style! Sit on the deck dressed in your best tuxedo, armed with a Walther PPK, and simply pour your Quarantini into a nice chilled martini glass after it’s been shaken, not stirred, of course.
