CORONAVIRUS: REAL-TIME ZOMBIE EPIDEMIOLOGY

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have officially announced that the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China has finally spread to the United States. And many experts are warning that Britain’s borders are too “porous” to keep the disease out of United Kingdom for much longer. This is a pandemic in the making, and zombie researchers should take note!

As of January, 2020 you will notice that the virus has spread across the Pacific Ocean from Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong before arriving in Seattle. Despite the knowledge that this deadly virus was widespread and has caused the death of seventeen people, international flight regulations and immigration officials were unable, or perhaps unwilling, to stop it.

State health officials said the man did not take a direct flight from Wuhan to the U.S., but did not say which airports he flew through to get to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on January 15. Washington Governor Jay Inslee … told reporters that despite the confirmed case, the risk for the rest of the population remained low at the time. On January 17, the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection implemented “enhanced health screenings” … The screenings only affect travelers coming to the U.S. on direct or connecting flights from Wuhan, China…

Please look at the map again if you haven’t already. Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong; these are major cities with direct flights to the United States. Despite the possibility of Wuhan (which is the capital of Hubei province) being ground zero for this deadly virus, why aren’t our officials restricting travelers from these cities as well? The outright ignorance and blatant disregard for the well-being of our citizens could easily serve as the prologue to any generic zombie film or novel. We all know how this turns out, and now we can watch it unfold online in real-time!
