Our Zombie Research Society survival expert and Advisory Board member Cameron Carlson recently joined Luke Poling and Heidi Hedquist to discuss the inevitable zombie apocalypse, theoretical epidemiology, and how various government agencies would ultimately respond to the undead outbreak on their charming new series Why? The Podcast; now available online!
The series is dedicated to pursuing the unique, the thrilling, the compelling, and the bizarre. Previous episodes feature incredibly diverse topics including the Loch Ness monster, psychic abilities, and the founder of a popular KISS tribute band entirely comprised of little people.
Despite the random nature of Why? The Podcast, Cameron did an amazing job addressing the science, survival, and culture of the living dead. But the interview took an interesting, if perhaps nihilistic, turn when he was asked “why do you care about the future of mankind?”
He shared with us some comforting words in that should and when this ever actually happens, it’s not likely to be some sort of overnight situation like we see in the movies. Should a disease mutate and cause zombies, it will actually have a relatively lengthy incubation period and would give us time to get our weapons ready and survival kits. He also explained that in the event of a major zombie event communication would not likely be taken out. So, you will be able to still message your loved ones and work out a plan of attack. Trying to figure out where your family should go when the undead come? Never fear, the ZRS even have an analysis of the 10 Safest Countries in a Zombie Apocalypse. Does your homeland rank? You’ll have to listen to the interview or visit the site to find out.
So why does the Zombie Research Society care about preserving the future of mankind? Maybe in a world where “communities” are formed around Funko toys and LEGO sets, that’s a legitimate question. Thankfully, Cameron was able to answer much more eloquently than us; and we highly suggest that you listen to the entire episode to hear the full conversation!
Perhaps you’re looking for a crash-course on the living dead in film and literature? Or maybe you’d like to hear our official survival expert weigh in on the endless “fast vs. slow” zombie debate? Podcast hosts Luke Poling and Heidi Hedquist ask those very questions and more on Episode 41: Zombie Research with The Zombie Research Society featuring Cameron Carlson.
