THE DEAD DON’T DIE – OFFICIAL TRAILER

The Zombie Research Society have been covering news of film auteur Jim Jarmusch and his upcoming zombie movie The Dead Don’t Die for months now. However, when the first official trailer was finally unveiled on April 1st, we were immediately hesitant. The possibility that this could be some wonderful April Fool’s Day hoax was simply too great to ignore; especially considering the AAA cast attached to the project itself. Everything just seemed too perfect!

We were immediately reminded of the brilliant, but completely fictitious, movie trailers that accompanied Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse; Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS featuring Nicolas Cage, the Hammer-esque Don’t starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and horror director Eli Roth’s pitch-perfect 80’s slasher Thanksgiving.

Unlike many other websites, we held back our enthusiasm because we simply couldn’t believe that The Dead Don’t Die was real. But it’s been almost twenty-four hours since Focus Features released their very first official trailer, and there doesn’t seem to be any chicanery. So prepare yourselves for “The Greatest Zombie Cast Ever Disassembled” coming to theaters June 14th.

In this peaceful town, on these quiet streets; something terrifying, something horrifying, is coming! From Jim Jarmusch. The Road To survival Could Be A Dead End. THE DEAD DON’T DIE – the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits. Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. In Theaters June 14th.

Just take a look at that cast; Bill Murray, Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, and Tom Waits! This film is a completely random mess of raw talent and disparate styles somehow all corralled together into a wonderfully straight-forward zombedy. Of course, director Jim Jarmusch has always had a talent for wringing dry comedy from his films including Down By Law and Dead Man.

But seeing something like The Dead Don’t Die come to life on the big-screen is almost too much for us to believe. So, we’ve embedded the official trailer from Focus Features below this post. Go take a look and let us know what you think at Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below – is it everything that you would expect from such a highly anticipated zombie film?

As we’ve already mentioned; the dry and comedic tone of the trailer strike us as some sort of post-ironic send-up of classic 80’s horror movies. And that’s a fine line to walk when it comes to horror or zombie films. Very few directors have actually managed to pull it off successfully.

Is it possible that The Dead Don’t Die is something brilliant like The Return of the Living Dead, Scream, or Shaun of the Dead? Well sure, we suppose that’s entirely possible. But at this point, we’re still not completely convinced that this isn’t some massive April Fool’s Day hoax.

We’ll keep our eyes open for more details on this film from director Jim Jarmusch. But if you’d like to learn more, please go check out the official website online or visit The Dead Don’t Die from Focus Features at Facebook and Twitter for additional information and much more!
