Sadly it looks as though legendary creator of the modern zombie George A. Romero may never get a much-deserved Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Our campaign to raise the $30,000 needed to pay for the Star has been protested by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. And because the Chamber is the entity that pockets the money and decides who gets the Stars it does no good to continue in the face of their hostility. Therefore the George Romero Star Project has been shut down.
Huge bummer.
Funny how the man who created the whole Zombie genre will not get a star. Most of us who have some knowledge of how to get a star on the walk of fame (or should it now be called walk of shame?) know that money is either raised or the star pays for it themselves. So I don’t really understand the big deal.
Funny how Magic Johnson and the Victoria Secret Angles get a star, but no chance for the master mind Romero. Looks like the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce members are truly protected during the upcoming zompocolypse, for they have proven themselves mindless, and as George taught us all, it’s all about the brains…
Why was it protested? Zombies go after people who tell only half a story first.
It was protested because they didn’t like that we were announcing to the world that it costs $30,000 to get a star. Some of the comments and blog posts about the process were complaining that it was a scam that the Chamber gets $30,000 for every star. So they attempted to get us shut down on indiegogo.
