GIRL SCOUT TROOP EARNS ZOMBIE BADGES

Despite a relatively poor showing at the box office this Halloween, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse taught audiences one important lesson; scouts are always prepared… even for the zombie apocalypse! And the members of Girl Scout Troop 3376 proved their mettle last month by earning their very own “Zombie Survival” patch.

Designed by troop leader Ann Jacobs, the course was based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s own popular Zombie Preparedness program and provided a fun way for the girls to learn about disaster preparedness, contagion, survival, and coping techniques in times of disaster.

For the past two months, the girls worked on emergency supply kits with their families and talked to family members about what they would do in case of a disaster, Jacobs said. She led the girls in several in-depth discussions about disaster preparedness, particularly about preparing for a tornado or flood, natural disasters many Oklahomans have faced.

One amazing uncle (brandishing his official “zombie-hunting license”) made a particularity lasting impression on the girls regarding the importance of survival gear during the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Of course now that all the hard work is finally complete, the Girl Scout troop is looking forward to visiting Orr Family Farm where the extremely popular Zombie Apocalypse Paintball experience will put their newfound skills to the test!

These brave young girls will always have a home here at the Zombie Research Society.
