NSYNC & BACKSTREET BOYS MAKING ZOMBIE FLICK

Setting aside the life and death struggle that was the competition between ‘NSync and the Backstreet Boys in the ’90s has rewarded us all with a zombie-western film starring many of the members of the two groups, and perhaps even include a New Kid on the Block or two.

I’ll let that sink in before we continue.  Y’OK now?  OK, here we go…

Here’s the roster as it stands now (with apparently more to come):

Backstreet Boys

  • Nick Carter
  • Howie Dorough
  • A.J. McLean

‘NSync

  • Joey Fatone
  • Justin Timberlake (riiiiight – in a million years — read: ain’t gonna happen)

New Kids on the Block

  • Jordan Knight (pending)

Rolling Stones describes the movie as a “post-apocalyptic drama, tentatively titled Dead 7, about a “ragtag band of gunslingers fighting a zombie plague.”

Carter, who is also writing the film describes his character as “a good guy that’s going to help save the day.” ‘NSync’s Joey Fatone chirps in happily “I get to be the drunk.”

Carter explained to Rolling Stones that he wants the film to be “musically based” (which doesn’t necessarily mean there will be musical numbers weaved into the plot (but how awesome/awful would that be)??? He also indicated that he is approaching Jordan Knight from the New Kids on the Block to join the ensemble.

Oh, and Asylum will be producing the film.  These are the geniuses behind the Sharknado franchise (and Z-Nation for that matter).  Love or hate them, they make movies that people watch.

David Latt of Asylum:

What [Carter] came to us with was a big idea of pop music stars in a genre setting,  a lot of the platforms, distributors and companies we work with responded to that immediately and we knew we had something we should move forward with.

Backstreet Boy McLean, who will play a villain in Carter’s film remarked about working with Asylum:

Movies like this can turn into cult phenomenons [sic] and that’s what Sharknado happened to be. I watched it, I’m like, ‘Okay, this is ridiculous but I’m still watching it and I think it’s awesome.

Now if they can just nail down Justin Timberlake and Marky Mark (I mean Mark Wahlberg) there’d be movie gold in them thar hills!
