Chomping at the bit for Dead Island 2? Publisher Deep Silver has unveiled a new, spin-off chapter in its zombie franchise that may curb your appetite this fall.
Entitled Escape Dead Island, the PS3-exclusive is billed as a “survival mystery” game that will serve as a stepping stone between previous Dead Island adventures and the forthcoming 2015 sequel. The single-player story will follow Cliff Calo, an amateur documentarian who enlists his friends to infiltrate the top-secret island of Narapela with hopes of revealing the nitty gritty truth behind the series’ Banoi zombie outbreak.
“Cliff struggles with his own sanity as the world around him begins to become increasingly unpredictable,” teased Deep Silver producer Alex Toplansky at PlayStation.Blog. “Time distorts and folds in on itself; strange messages appear and impossible events shatter reality. Oceans turn to blood, containers plummet from the clear sky… If Cliff had any thoughts about this being a routine documentary, he’d be ‘dead’ wrong.”
Dead wrong, eh? We see what you did there. Now see what Escape Dead Island is cooking up for horror gamers later this year in its debut trailer:
Dead Island 2 will release in early 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is being developed by Yager Development (Spec Ops: The Line) in lieu of Dead Island’s original team at Techland, who are instead stitching together final pieces of its new open world/zombie/parkour title, Dying Light.
