iZOMBIE COMES TO TELEVISION ON THE CW

Rob Thomas, creator of the popular television series Veronica Mars, is set to produce an adaptation of the underground comic iZOMBIE for the CW network! In collaboration with his longtime partner Diane Rugierro, the two are reportedly in the process of creating an upcoming pilot episode for the zombie-themed Eisner Award winning series.

Originally published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, the series will focus on a young zombie who takes a job at the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains that she must consume in order to maintain her humanity. However, with each feast she also inherits the memories of the recently deceased… a skill that ultimately proves useful both to the local medical examiner and an enterprising young police detective.

iZombie, from Warner Bros TV and Rob Thomas Prods, is a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a medical-student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. However, with every brain she eats, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.

Of course, the official announcement follows the trend of adapting other hot DC Comics properties including the Arrow, an upcoming spin-off project based on The Flash and a highly anticipated Wonder Woman series.

Since the original comic book series featured a number of supernatural creatures including vampires, ghosts and werewolves… it will be interesting to see how faithfully Thomas will adapt the material for the small screen. So check back for more details!

  1. This actually sounds more like the “My Life as a White Trash Zombie” series of books, except with the remembering from the brains part. But, really, the media company that owns the TV rights to the “Zombie Fallout” series, from Mark Tufo, needs to get off their asses, and get into production. Though, it’d have to be on a channel like HBO or Showtime, because you can’t have Zombie Falllout without the phrase “FUCKING TALBOT!”
