Released in September of 2013, the graphic novel from IDW Publishing, The Other Dead, has continued to receive critical accolades. Now it’s going to be a TV show on Animal Planet, the network owned and operated by The Discovery Channel. It will be a scripted show based on the graphic novel, featuring undead bear, deer, wolves, turtles and, if it follows the novels, an ass-kicking, machine gun-toting President Obama… getting it done.
The Other Dead co-creator Joshua Ortega (Gears of War, Spiderman) had this to say about the upcoming series:
“The entire creative team could not be more excited about this partnership, and the timing for ‘The Other Dead’ series could not be more perfect. Zombie animal meets Animal Planet? Sounds like we have some serious undead fun ahead of us.
While Animal Planet is known for educational and reality based programming, the channel has been attempting to “sheds its soft and furry side for programming and an image with more bite” since its re-branding back in 2008. If done right, this aught to do it!
Rick Holzman, Animal Planet exec VP and General Manager adds:
This is an intriguing choice for Animal Planet as the network further branches out into different, dynamic genres.
The Other Dead is set to premiere on Animal Planet in 2016.
