One of the most beloved zombie films of all-time recently celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. And in addition to an amazing interactive screenplay, which is currently available online, and the insightful Photo-A-Day project featured on director Edgar Wright’s official website; Austin-based company Mondo is celebrating Shaun of the Dead by releasing an extremely limited edition version of the film’s original soundtrack on vinyl.
Surprisingly, the score has never been released on any format until now. And Mondo has certainly given it the full attention that it deserves! With multiple colored pressings, limited edition artwork and a rare Zombie Extermination Disc randomly distributed amongst the initial orders… this is destined to become a highly sought-after collectible.
While aware that they were working on a comedy, composers Daniel Mudford & Pete Woodhead wanted to make a score that was deadly serious and let the comedy do its own thing. “We wanted to “play a straight bat,” as the English say, and treat the film as though it was a sincere and genuinely terrifying scenario.” says Mudford. In doing so, they crafted a score that fits in perfectly along side the great horror scores that inspired it.
The record actually made its debut last month at MondoCon as part of a carnival-style game where attendees took turns flinging albums at the undead for a chance to win the rarest edition of the new soundtrack. And now with the official release, some versions are already beginning to sell out and go for big bucks on the secondary market.
The original soundtrack definitely deserves to be heard, and this beautiful 180 gram vinyl edition definitely deserves to be seen! We’ve included a few photos below, but additional details and information including artwork, packaging and a track list can be found online at the official Mondo website. So make sure that you swing by and check it out!
