When DVDs first began to hit the market, my fellow film fanatics and I used to joke about the day that VHS tapes would be considered cool, retro and “vintage.” Well, it appears that day has finally arrived… thanks in large part to the classic box art of Wizard Video!
Many zombie fans will fondly recall their first encounter with the oversized VHS boxes which featured amazing artwork for lurid titles like Zombie, A Virgin Among The Living Dead and Zombie Lake. Before the days of digital downloads and On-Demand, this was the way that fans of the undead experienced their favorite zombie films.
A fond memory for people who grew up in the video store era of the early 80’s – the big VHS box has become a rare collectable due to its scarcity and (usually poor) condition. And now a treasure trove of original big VHS boxes was found late last year in one of Charles Band’s and Full Moon’s many overcrowded warehouses!
This recent find by filmmaker Charles Band and Full Moon Features will finally make available a virtual gold mine of classic VHS box art! Each month four popular new titles will be released, including a number of rare zombie movies. And in addition to a brand new copy of each film, every original box will be signed and numbered.
