With the success and popularity of literary zombie crossovers such as Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, it was only a matter of time before the undead began to invade the classic works of William Shakespeare! That’s why it comes as no surprise to learn that Ground Zero Theatre of Calgary, Alberta is prepared to present William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead.
“After the Globe’s inaugural performance of Henry V … the company’s costumer is bitten by a plague-ridden madman and the Queen and her men arrive seeking safety, life in the playhouse takes a turn for the worse. As affliction spreads through London, the Globe is quarantined and the survivors within must fight for their lives… and for their art.
A Comedic homage to zombie films and a carefully researched drama about Shakespeare and his authorship.”
Originally created by the incredibly talented playwright John Heimbuch and performed in 2008 as part of the Minnesota Fringe Festival, this current version of the popular stage production is the work of The Shakespeare Company of Alberta and runs through April 6th, 2013 at the Vertigo Theatre Centre.
