According to the International Center for Media & Public Affairs, your chances of living through a catastrophic zombie outbreak are severely reduced if you’re online social media junky.
A study of 1,000 university students from 10 countries found that most couldn’t go 24 hours without media, no matter how hard they tried. What’s more, students quickly became depressed, anxious, lonely, bored and sad without access to technology. Dr. Gregory Jantz continues:
“In particular, they were lost without their cell phones, which function as both Swiss Army knife and security blanket for this digital generation.”
Study participants reported that their mobile phones and other media are literally an extension of themselves, so going without media made it seem like they had lost a part of themselves.
In a zombie pandemic all forms of social media may quickly become distant memories of a bygone era. Gone will be television, the internet, computers and most electronics in general.
If you’re not able to quickly make the psychological adjustment to this new reality you’re as good as zombie bait.
Unfortunately this study suggests that the undead will have plenty of ready meals to choose from.
