ZOMBIES: THE FIRE THAT BITES

How do you prepare for a zombie attack on your safehouse?  Start by thinking of the undead as a raging fire.

In a zombie outbreak, your shelter is only as good as its escape routes.  No matter how secure it appears to be, if you can’t get out in a matter of seconds that perfect hideout could quickly turn into the perfect tomb.  According to FireSafety.gov, the same holds true in the case of a residential building fire:

“Time is the biggest enemy, and every second counts!  In less than 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control.”

Once your home defenses are breached, either by the undead or other hostile humans, a “fire” plan should be put in to action.  Don’t grab valuables, or try to fight off the threat.  Any movement not directly related to escape is a waste of time and energy.

Just another example of how more traditional disaster preparedness techniques can be readily applied to life in the coming zombie plague.

  1. “The Fire that Bites” sounds like the title of a collection of Jorie Graham poems. (That, or a venereal disease.) Either way, I love it!
