CAN THE ZOMBIE VIRUS BE CURED?

Reported by the National Science Foundation, researchers at Rutgers University discovered how RNA viruses are able to replicate, which could eventually lead to a cure. These viruses, including Polio, SARS, and HIV/AIDS, copy themselves by taking a naturally occurring enzyme hostage.  Study director Nihal Altan-Bonnet continues:

“The goal of any virus is to replicate itself. For its replication machines to work, the virus needs to create an ideal lipid environment, which it does by hijacking a key enzyme from its host cell.”

Therefore, by blocking a virus from gaining access to the necessary enzyme, these serious diseases would suddenly not be able to synthesize their viral RNA and replicate.

If the zombie plague is also viral in nature, and if it uses the RNA platform, these findings could lead to the development of viable treatment options for the newly infected. Individuals would  have the zombie sickness in their blood, potentially be contagious, but would not get sick, die or reanimate.

What do you think will be the source of the coming zombie plague? A virus? Biological weapon? Radiation?

  1. I think it would come from a virus or even a strange virus-creating structure (virion factory, like the Megavirus) that would aggressively interfere with the body’s protein synthesis, interfering with RNA transcription/translation, as well as waste removal. Thus, the living victim would rapidly decompose alive, would be unable to heal, and will likely have a constant craving for flesh (due to protein and iron malabsorption). Scary.

  2. Virus or bacteria something that can mutant at a fast rate plus very resistant

  3. parasite… hands down. something that secreets embalming fluid lives in the spinal cord and is able to send off electrical pulses, and as the corps and the nervous system decays the parasite grows down the spinal cord until it reaches the muscle directly.
-the good ol’ frog with an electrode up it’s ass

….and if it’s a “specially” engineered parasite it could very well keep growing and become a giant bug with being supported with human bones

  4. Biological weapon gone wrong. Seems like most things happen when something goes wrong.

  5. Biological engineered viral weapon.

as for a cure, that would be possible if used before it takes full effect, such as in the few first hours. After a person has been turned into a zombie, the brain would probably have become to far damaged to even hope of the person returning to humanity, that and the person is probably already dead. A vaccine would be best but if the nature of the virus is brutal, then the countermeasures cure would be the only option. Also Dead Riseing 2 had another good idea of a suppressant, were your not cured, but your not turning into a zombie.
