WORLD WAR Z SEQUEL TO DEPLOY IN 2017

World War Z set the zombie scene on fire with its less-than-authentic take on Max Brook’s novel of the same name. Now, word out of Hollywood is fans and haters alike will have another chance to dissect Brad Pitt’s post-apocalyptic franchise with a sequel in 2017.

According to Deadline, World War Z 2 (really?) will devour theatres on June 9, 2017 where it will compete against the Fantastic Four reboot for box office spoils. It will be directed by J.A. Bayona, whose more recent works include 2007’s The Orphanage and 2012’s The Impossible.

As for the plot, IMDB indicates the sequel will see Pitt reprise his role as Gerry Lane, a former U.N. Investigator who [spoiler alert] landed a crucial victory over the speed-zombie army in the 2013 original. Further details are unclear, but Paramount already has the rights to Brooks’ The Zombie Survival Guide and its Recorded Attacks comic book spin-off. Who knows if either will inform the sequel, but judging by World War Z’s loyalty to source material, we’re not holding our breath.

World War Z made over $540 million worldwide, becoming Pitt’s most lucrative film to date. Despite criticism for its loose interpretation of Brooks’ novel, that’s definitely a sign audiences are hungry for more. Now…if we can just do something about that name. Might we suggest World War A? World War Z: Retaliation? 2 World 2 War 2 Z? Leave us your suggestions in the comments below…

  2. what about world war zzzzzzz

  3. I would only go see it if it ends up being closer to the book than the first one was. As for a title, how about “World War Z: Mutation”???
