EBOLA ZOMBIES… AGAIN?

I hesitated writing this article, so as not to add fodder to the ridiculous rumors surrounding Ebola and zombies, rumors that won’t die– like the undead itself.  By now, the latest report of a couple of Liberian Ebola victims miraculously “resurrecting” from the dead is already a few days old, but that story refuses to die– like the undead as well.  So, I write this article to help combat the misinformation, not add to it.

First, let’s take a look at the report at TheNewDawnLiberia.com.  Here it is verbatim (complete with grammatical errors and misspellings):

Two Ebola patients, who died of the virus in separate communities in Nimba County have reportedly resurrected in the county. The victims, both females, believed to be in their 60s and 40s respectively, died of the Ebola virus recently in Hope Village Community and the Catholic Community in Ganta, Nimba.

But to the amazement of residents and onlookers on Monday, the deceased reportedly regained life in total disbelief.  The NewDawn Nimba County correspondent said the late Dorris Quoi of Hope Village Community and the second victim only identified as Ma Kebeh, said to be in her late 60s, were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected.

Ma Kebeh had reportedly been in door for two nights without food and medication before her alleged death. Nimba County has had bazaar [sic]  news of Ebola cases with a native doctor from the county, who claimed that he could cure infected victims, dying of the virus himself last week.

News of the resurrection of the two victims has reportedly created panic in residents of Hope Village Community and Ganta at large, with some citizens describing Dorris Quoi as a ghost, who shouldn’t live among them. Since the Ebola outbreak in Nimba County, this is the first incident of dead victims resurrecting.

That last sentence is wrong on so many levels, it’s hard to even explain why. Looking past the obvious fact that the two women in question here, were not in fact dead before they “regained life in total disbelief,” this really goes a long way in illustrating the level of disarray this epidemic is creating. Of course this distracts from the real issues, covering everything in a blanket of superstition and ignorance. This is quickly becoming an epidemic of panic and misinformation, in as much as it is a health crisis.  We wrote about some of this misinformation in our article ‘Ebola Zombie’ Rumors a few weeks ago.

Matthew Wright, in his excellent article Why Ebola Puts the Zombie Apocalypse into Proper Perspective explains what the Ebola outbreak and a zombie pandemic DO have in common:

Everybody you know and love is suddenly snatched away by a quick and lethal infection that seems to have come out of nowhere. It spreads by touch. If you help them … you risk getting it. It devastates families. It destroys organised society.

…the fact that we envisage the social impact of a ‘zombie apocalypse’ in terms that so closely match a real uber-pandemic disease outbreak is indicative of the depth to which our fear of pandemic is etched into our cultural make-up.

If using a fictional zombie pandemic helps educate the general public about the very real danger of an epidemic like Ebola, then I, for one, am all for it.  The problem as I see it, though, is that zombies are not being used as a metaphor in these cases.  If left unchecked, the next reports we’re going to be reading about will be Ebola victims being separated from the populous and shot in the head.

  1. hello, you’re very serious? you compare the reality with games? yes, in game the zombies eat but it’s GAME .

  2. So are you saying that the Zombie thing is not real it’s just a rumor ?
Please Email me you’re reply .

  3. these people who woke up are not zombie because they seem intelligent still and they are not biting or eating people in general. however, I think when it happens the zombie virus will start in Africa because the deadliest diseases seem to originate there.

  4. Considering there were a couple of biolabs in Sierra Leone that shut down after the outbreak anything is possible including a mutant strain mixed with the rabies virus. It may not produce a true zombie returning from the dead but it would induce rage similar to the face eating guy in Florida that supposedly ingested “bath salts” a few years back. Now we have “The Strain” where zombies with stingers emerge vampire style from a satanic virus. Swords and machetes again for hours of head severing fun! Is it normal or odd for the public to be so enamored of shows like “The Walking Dead”? Why are there SO MANY if them? Contagion, Outbreak, World War Z, 28 Days Later, I am Legend just to name a few. What crazy mass consciousness is at play here and are they trying to tell us something?

Ebola will be very interesting to watch and hopefully the dead will stay that way.

    • If I were a conspiracy theorist (which I am – thank the gods – not) one could easily believe that the PTB (Powers That Be) or an as yet unidentified individual or third party is leaking information about what may well be coming our way. The intent of this leaked information is targeted to those of us wise enough or perhaps more paranoid than average to heed this message and prepare for the forthcoming anarchy.

On the flip side the world is rapidly approaching both an economic and a climattological tipping point and either have the potential to create massive disruptions in the normal order of things. It could well be our own government doing the sub rosa leaking in order to warn us of what potentially lays ahead and they are doing so knowing that if they were to make public statements to this effect that massive and widespread panic would be the result.

Personally I haven’t a clue about what is going on with all this, but it sure is a heck of a lot of fun.

    • U
You are spit on I’ve thought about this Ebola shit for years hell Isiah in the bible said your living shall die and your dead shall live jesus promised he would resurrect treas but in christ and the wicked dead what’s that mean
… but we are the walking mabey the show of the same is showing what going to be in 2020 or when the permafrost melts hell they have already found a virus that wont die by sciecist that had be couched out with an ameboia chronic wasting disease it’s just a .after of time this has to happen it would be very interesting strange hard to see scary ad fuk but it’s what man deserves reply your thoughts

  5. seems to me like someone is being told to play this down hmmm

    • I know, it’s creepy! I read the other post by ZRS and they seem privy to information that no-one else is. Also, Snopes didn’t give the usual “not real” and instead said that they weren’t sure. Most of the sources that are posting details about the resurrections are being censored end erased within days of posting to the web. What is really going on? What are we not being told? Is there a virus at all or are they just euthanizing certain populations of people and telling us a virus did it?

  6. With tongue firmly in cheek isn’t this how the zombie apocalypse supposed to start? Who’s to say that this isn’t a mutation of the disease? All that is needed is for the Ebola virus to mutate to airborne transmission – which I hope and pray to whatever gods there may be that it doesn’t – for it to become a potentially apocalyptic event. Were this to become a reality people worldwide would begin to panic, because let’s face damned few people really trust our government or, for that matter, any government to protect them from something like this and anarchy would rule.
