OCULUS RIFT: ZOMBIES ON THE HOLODECK!

As video games become more immersive, the zombie genre remains at the forefront of modern technology; constantly pushing the boundaries of horror and survival. One of the latest advancements comes courtesy of the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset and gaming platform that originally gained popularity with both contributors and developers through an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012.

Since that time independent designers have adopted the platform for a number of amazing new projects, ultimately culminating in Zombies on the Holodeck! which offers players a truly horrifying and fully immersive zombie survival experience.

Zombies on the Holodeck uses the modular Holodeck platform to immerse players in a survival horror environment. Players use the Oculus Rift to explore with peripheral vision and head tracking, and use Razer Hydra controllers to shoot guns, pick up items, and build defenses. If players choose to use all the Holodeck hardware, the game can support two players together over a network, sharing a playspace, and moving in 360 degrees with positional tracking.

While this pre-alpha build is currently only available for Windows systems, including some laptops, the game really requires both the Oculus Rift and Razer Hydra motion controllers for the full experience. However we’ve included a brief trailer and video demonstration, courtesy of Project Holodeck, as an example of the possibilities that this upcoming system can provide zombie fans and gamers alike.

So sit back and witness the future of zombie gaming below. And be sure to visit both Project Holodeck and the official website of Zombies on the Holodeck! for additional information, videos and updates on the upcoming video game and Oculus system itself!
