MAID OF THE DEAD — NEW JAPANESE CLAYMATION GORE

Many zombie fans will remember the truly wonderful claymation bloodbath called simply Chainsaw Maid by Japanese stopmotion wizard, Takena Nagao.  It came out several years ago, and has over 4 million hits on Youtube.

It has spawned many unofficial sequels, especially by another claymation creator, Lee Hardcastle.  Hardcastle’s animations are rougher and feel a little less polished than Takena’s, but are nonetheless chock a block full of clay gore. Hardcastle also produced one of the episodes in the horror compilation The ABC’s of Death.  His episode was called T is for Toilet.

Well Takena has a brand new video short just out called Maid of the Dead.  Once again, he goes straight for the jugular in the gore department, unflinching in his usual style.  No cut-aways here!  He also uses standard, minimalistic music to great effect when the blood and flesh starts to fly, as he has done with most of his other video shorts.

Finally, the video refers to “ketchup drawing,” which apparently is an actual thing.  And it is exactly what you would think it is.  Yes. Drawing with ketchup.

And for those couple of people who haven’t seen Takena’s original Chainsaw Maid, or are feeling nostalgic… here it is:

Takena Nagao is a true artist, and a pretty prolific one, considering the amount of time it takes to produce one of these masterpieces.  Check out his Youtube channel to watch more of his creations.
