Since it was announced nearly three years ago, both zombie and wrestling fans alike have been clamoring for director Cody Knotts’ new film Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies. Featuring an impressive cast of wrestling superstars including “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (among many others) it quickly became one of the year’s most anticipated new zombie films!
With an ambitious plot involving love, betrayal and black magic this production certainly aims for the stars. But there’s only so much an independent feature can do with a modest budget. And let’s be honest, fans are flocking to this film for one reason; to see their favorite wrestlers chop, drop and body slam the living dead… and Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies delivers that in spades!
An abandoned prison is the battlefield as a troupe of professional wrestlers are booked for a private show, only to be faced with the undead. Unfortunately for the zombie nation, they aren’t just facing any group of professional wrestlers, they are facing living legends like WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Matt Hardy, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, former ECW World champions “The Franchise” Shane Douglas and even Olympic medalist turned WWE and TNA World champion Kurt Angle!
Unsurprisingly, many of the superstars seem right at home on the big screen! Classic rivalries are revisited, and casual friendships seem completely authentic. Except for a few obvious moments, the first half of the film plays out almost like a day-in-the-life of the wrestling elite. But this film isn’t just a valentine to wrestling fans, and our villain Ashton Amherst quickly unleashes an army of the undead on the unsuspecting heroes!
Sure it may be clunky at times, and completely silly at others, but the movie is never dull. So viewers should strap themselves in for one heck of a ride, and expect a lot of fun. Because, love it or hate it… Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies is destined to become a cult classic!
