ZOMBIES CARRY DISEASE: BE SAFE & WRAP IT UP!

During the inevitable zombie apocalypse it will be absolutely essential to protect yourself from the clawing, scratching and infected bites of the undead. Obviously the best course of action is to keep your distance. However, survivors should always be prepared for a few unexpected close encounters. That’s why it’s never too early to start thinking about wrapping yourself up in some practical zombie armor!

Expert and author Max Brooks claims that armor can greatly impede both speed and agility; two of our greatest advantages against the undead hordes. But we’re not talking about an ancient suit of medieval armor, or the cumbersome gear of our modern military. In fact, Brooks goes on to clearly explain his remarks in the pages of the hugely popular novel The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead.

Cold, hard figures have shown that when battling the living dead, nothing has saved more victims than basic, tight clothing and loosely cropped hair. The simple fact is that ghouls attack by reaching out to grab their victims, pulling them in, and biting. Logic dictates that the less material a person offers up for grabs, the better his or her chances will be.

Wrapping up the exposed and most vulnerable parts of our bodies could mean the difference between life and death. Any sort of tight protective clothing, from heavy leather jackets and long sleeve t-shirts to a simple scarf may help protect you against infection carried by the walking dead. And never discount the endless benefits of duct tape!

At the Zombie Research Society we’ve published international studies on the jaw strength of the undead, the future promise of bullet-proof shirts and an exhaustive guide to survival gear. But it’s the practical advice of contributors like Chris Post, who recommends something as simple as sports equipment to protect you during the zombie apocalypse.

So take a look around our website; learn what you can and prepare yourselves… because what you don’t know can eat you!

  1. I love your website! You mentioned simple sports equipment for protection. I’m a fencing coach and I often thought to myself…if there’s a zombie apocolypse, I’m wearing my fencing uniform under my regular clothing. I figure most bites happen on the arms and necks and that’s precisely what fencing uniforms cover, and they’re meant to be puncture resistant.

High end fencing gear (for just a jacket) can run up to $350 dollars. The materials is puncture resistant up to 800N. Naturally, they’re highly breathable, moveable and light. The have pants as well (but not full length), but they can fit underneath regular pants. We also have an additional half jacket that goes underneath our regular jacket to further protect us.

If i know I’m in a zombie zone, I’d have my fencing mask on. Not only does this further cover my face and neck, the mask is even more protective. It’s up to 1600N puncture resistant. I don’t have to worry about my face shield fogging up or shattering.

My zombie survival wear will include my fencing uniform. What do you think!

    • I think that’s an awesome idea. Where do you get fencing gear? A catalog? Internet? Are there stores that specialize? If the Zombies are like 28 days later, will it be able to protect from blood splatter? The helmet?
