ANOTHER PHILADELPHIA FLYERS ZOMBIE GOALIE MASK

Philadelphia Flyers’ goalie Steve Mason has teamed up with artist Franny Drummond once again to create yet another amazing zombie-themed mask! But instead of featuring more figures from American history, the brand new design incorporates zombie portraits of fellow Flyers teammates Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell among others.

Originally envisioned as the last piece in a trilogy, Mason reportedly pushed ahead with the current concept and even included portraits of equipment managers Derek Settlemyre and Harry Bricker on the back… not to mention a matching stick! Speaking recently with NHL Insider, the goalie described his partnership with the artist.

He’ll send me pictures updating how it’s coming along. Once you actually get it in person you see the detail he puts into it. I said it on the last helmet, it’s some of the nicest work I’ve ever seen. And it’s on a goalie helmet too. That makes it that much more special to myself. And he goes above and beyond and does a stick to match the design of the helmet. Never seen anything like it. I’m fortunate to have a painter like Franny here.

The new equipment arrived last weekend just in time for Friday morning practice, and it even managed to impress assistant coach Ian Laperriere. We’ve embedded a short video of the moment below, plus additional images of the mask itself. But be sure to visit the original NHL Insider report for more even information.
