DAY OF THE DEAD REMAKE HAS A DIRECTOR

We recently reported that Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, the producers behind the successful remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, have teamed up once again to produce a brand new version of George Romero’s zombie classic Day Of The Dead. And just this week Deadline announced that Millennium Films has recruited director and screenwriter Mark Tonderai to helm their new version of the film.

In this new version, years after the zombie plague has wiped out most of Earth’s population, a group of scientists and survivors attempt to find a cure, and instead open Pandora’s box. The title was shopped at the recent AFM. Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman are producers. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Terry Dougas are executive producers. Beth Bruckner is co-producer.

Perhaps best known for Hush and House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue, Tonderai collaborated with with Lars Jacobson to pen a script based on the original vision of George Romero, who recently turned down an opportunity to be involved with the project.

The remake of Day Of The Dead is being developed by Vicarious Entertainment in association with Campbell Grobman Films, and production is expected to begin sometime in the summer of 2014 with a budget of anywhere between $10 million and $20 million.

You can read the announcement from Deadline online, or visit the original story from the Los Angeles Times for more information and details about the upcoming remake itself.
