ZRS GUIDE TO COMIC-CON 2013: THURSDAY

Comic-Con 2013 kicked off this Wednesday evening in San Diego with a very special Preview Night; and the Zombie Research Society is here to help you find all of the best, most exciting and informative zombie-themed events, panels and programs available!

A quick note: Many of these events and panels are scheduled simultaneously or overlap. So please make sure to read the entire schedule and plan your time accordingly!

Comic Con Tursday Teaser


Robert Kirkman
9:00AM – 10:00AM
Sails Pavilion – Autographs

The man, the legend, the unstoppable force behind The Walking Dead; author and writer Robert Kirkman will be on hand bright and early Thursday morning to sign autographs! Unfortunately this is a very limited signing, and a drawing for line tickets will be held at 9:00 am in the autograph area. So be sure to arrive early!


Munchkin School & Zombie Dice
10:00AM – 11:00AM
Room 15A

How about a nice competitive game of Zombie Dice? This popular game is lots of fun and very easy to learn. So swing by the gaming room Thursday morning as zombie fans gather together to play a few rounds of this family-friendly dice game!


Fred Perry Art Demo
2:00PM – 3:00PM
Room 30CDE

The featured artist from Zombie Kid Diaries will draw a comic book page for his critically acclaimed series Gold Digger in front of a live audience, providing insightful commentary including his preferred drawing tools, techniques, and more.


Zombie Dice & Munchkin: Zombie and Booty
2:00PM – 3:00PM
Room 15A

Head back to the game room for some more zombie-themed fun. Now in addition to Zombie Dice, fans will have the opportunity to play Munchkin: Zombies… an exciting expansion to the popular series of Munchkin games where players take on the undead!


Entertainment Weekly’s The Visionaries
2:30PM – 3:30PM
Hall H

Edgar Wright, director of the cult zombie comedy Shaun Of The Dead, will join fellow filmmakers Marc Webb and Alfonso Cuarón for a master class on the art of filmmaking and a wide-ranging panel discussion about the future of film.


The World of CAPCOM Games
3:30PM – 4:30PM
Room 6BCF

This panel of CAPCOM’s producers and product managers will share the latest details on all of their upcoming games including the sequel to one of the most successful zombie video game franchises ever; the Xbox One exclusive launch title Dead Rising 3!


The Walking Dead 10th Anniversary Panel
4:15PM – 5:15PM
Room 6A

Robert Kirkman will discuss the creation and evolution of The Walking Dead, plus the future of the series including his plans to celebrate the comic book’s 10th anniversary later this year. The live Q&A forum promises to be one of the most popular events for zombie and comic book fans alike, so make sure that you arrive early!


Creepy and Eerie REBORN and UNDEAD
4:30PM – 5:30PM

Zombie fans should be very familiar with these two classic comic books, known for consistently pushing the boundaries of horror. This panel will discuss the lasting legacy and influence of the original magazines, the brand new series from Dark Horse and the upcoming Creepy feature film!


Geeks Get Published-and Paid!

Author and writer S. G. Browne of Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament will participate in a panel about how independent authors manage to publish their work, how they make money at it, and how you can too!


Entertainment Weekly’s Brave New Warriors

Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead will join a number of other daring and dauntless young actors to discuss the thrills and fears of taking on iconic characters, reveal how they broke into the business, and share some of their favorite stories from set.


Zombies in Pop Culture
7:00PM – 8:00PM
Room 7AB

Our very own Matt Mogk will join fellow Zombie Research Society members Max Brooks and Scott Kenemore, as well as author Steven Schlozman, neuroscientist Bradley Voytek, journalist Aaron Sagers and DailyDead.com blogger Jonathan James to discuss the recent explosion and popularity of zombies in pop culture.

Join this expert panel for a Q&A session covering everything from the origin of the modern zombie to the deep-rooted fears it represents. With such an amazing group of speakers from across the entire spectrum; this panel promises to be the ultimate zombie event at Comic-Con 2013. And we definitely recommend that you arrive early!


Not Guilty Due to Zombification? Law and Forensic Psychiatry in a Zombie Apocalypse
8:00PM – 9:30PM
Room 7AB

Certainly one of the most interesting events at Comic-Con 2013; this mock courtroom will put humanity on trial for crimes committed during the zombie apocalypse! Once the laws of society are restored, would you find the survivors guilty of simple theft or breaking and entering? How about murder and cannibalism? Join a panel of doctors, lawyers and zombie experts as they present their case to the audience itself.


Blue Hole
10:45PM – 11:10PM
Marriott Hall 2, Marriott Marquis & Marina

Zombie fans can attend a special screening of this short film that explores the legend behind an eerie pond called “Blue Hole” that is rumored to bring the dead back to life; inspired by a true story and a real place in New Jersey! Filmmakers, writers and producers will be on hand to participate in a Q&A after the film.


Is This A Zombie?
10:55PM – 11:20PM
Marriott Hall 4, Marriott Marquis & Marina

Comic-Con attendees can end their night with a very special viewing of the popular Japanese anime series Is This A Zombie? at the Marriott. However, no one under the age of 18 will be allowed into the Anime rooms after 10:00 PM unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
