FLORIDA JOB CORPS VS. ZOMBIES

More than twenty students from the Pinellas County Job Corps met their doom this week at the hands of the undead! The zombie-themed event was organized as part of safety week, and was supposed to be a fun way for residents of St. Petersburg to learn about blood-borne pathogens, teamwork and preparedness. Unfortunately, none of the students actually survived the exercise!

The event was part of the Job Corps’ safety week, during which students learn about a range of public safety issues, including diseases, wildlife and storms. While the Department of Labor mandates Job Corps sites go through safety week, each chooses its own theme for the week.

“We figured, why not do a zombie apocalypse?” said Carol Glover, the Pinellas County Job Corps’ business community liaison – and a newly trained zombie makeup artist.

Members of Thrill St. Pete offered their services as zombies, and judging from the results they did a great job of terrorizing the locals. Granted, the students were outnumbered by the undead by more than two to one… but unless the citizens of Florida start taking their survival seriously, it looks like we can write off the people of St. Petersburg during the inevitable zombie apocalypse!

Regardless of their miserable failure, it seems like everyone actually had a fun time! So be sure to read the original story online at The Tampa Tribune for even more details including a video report and pictures from the event itself.
