NO END TO WALKING DEAD?

Gale Anne Hurd, the executive producer of The Walking Dead, recently tweeted this article from The Hollywood Reporter in which the CEO of AMC Networks claims that he sees no end in sight for the hugely popular television series!

Josh Sapan granted an interview in which he discussed the coming finales of shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. However when talk turned to The Walking Dead, which is currently preparing for its forth season, he seemed equally glib and optimistic.

“We hope that zombies live forever and we’ve just begun to find out what the post-apocalyptic world is like,” said Sapan, “so that we’ll be sitting here at the Barclays conference in 2022 discussing the fact that Walking Dead is not over … at that point, I think any one of the companies will have replaced the United States government and we’ll be in a complete free enterprise world in which there are no nations.”

Of course, the sad truth is that without a cure… the zombie apocalypse could ravage the world forever! And with Robert Kirkman’s original comic book recently publishing over one hundred issues; there is certainly enough material for the series to draw from.

Could The Walking Dead possibly sustain itself for hundreds, if not thousands, of episodes… continuing the gothic soap opera tradition of such classics as Dark Shadows? Only time will tell.

  1. I almost have to hope there is already an end in sight — one of the worst things to happen to any good franchise (whether it be books, television show, movie or video game) is for it to drag on too long and turn into something that becomes almost a parody of itself.

    Think X-Files…

Now, I’m certainly not saying that Walking Dead needs to end any time soon, but I have to hope all those involved in the show are keeping at least an idea of an ending point in sight.

Sometimes it’s better to let things die when they’ve run their natural span…
